"What do you see as the biggest challenges for leaders in the current crisis?" This is what the Institute for Leadership Culture in the Digital Age (IFIDZ) wanted to know in its Leadership Trend Barometer at the end of March in light of the current Corona crisis.
Leaders are challenged and in demand in 2020
"What do you consider to be the biggest challenges for leaders in the current crisis?" This is what the Institute for Leadership Culture in the Digital Age (IFIDZ), Frankfurt, wanted to know in its Leadership Trend Barometer at the end of March in light of the current Corona crisis.
The online survey revealed: In times like these, leaders are particularly in demand as drivers and steers of their areas or companies. Moreover, their personalities are needed to provide guidance and support to their employees in the crisis. They are expected to hold the team together as leaders in times like these and guide them safely through the crisis.
Central challenges for leaders in times of crisis
Most survey participants cited the following aspects as central challenges (multiple answers possible):
58% "Setting priorities: Deciding quickly and correctly in a crisis"
54% "Acting in a structured and focused manner in an 'unstable environment'"
50% "As a responsible person, conveying calmness and confidence despite the crisis"
Crisis management: Leaders must provide guidance
These results are not surprising, because: When a crisis renders all the strategies and plans of companies obsolete, the first task of leaders is to reflect on the changed situation and set priorities anew. Only then is effective crisis management possible. At the same time, this is the prerequisite to radiate calmness and the confidence of "We can do this" as a leader and boss despite the crisis and to provide employees with the desired guidance and necessary support.
